Abstract

Aquaponics requires timely monitoring and traceable remote control of water and feeding operations. This study designed, implemented, and functionally validated HidroPond, an IoT-based information system for aquaponics monitoring and control. Dedicated Sensor and Actuator ESP32 devices, an Arduino Nano for pH acquisition, a FastAPI backend, a Supabase database, and a Vercel-hosted web application form the architecture. Six parameters (pH, total dissolved solids, water temperature, ambient temperature, humidity, and surface distance as a water-level indicator) were aggregated for transmission at a configured three-minute interval. The actuator supports water filling, draining, pH Up and pH Down dosing, and fish feeding. During a one-day evaluation at a single aquaponics installation, all ten predefined functional checkpoints were verified across telemetry, cloud storage, web monitoring, remote control, device connectivity, and execution feedback. Command-linked feedback distinguishes submitted requests from device-reported outcomes and provides a basis for inspecting unconfirmed operations before further intervention; completion reports do not independently verify water flow, dosing volume, or feed delivery. The contribution is a field-deployed bidirectional information workflow linking telemetry, command records, execution reports, and device connectivity across physical devices and cloud services. Future work will quantify network performance, sensor accuracy, and long-term reliability and separately evaluate AIoT-based predictive control using task-specific outcome data.
